English 原文
Warm, uneven wood scratched gently against Clara’s palm as she crawled to the willow-root corner of the dock. Zelda sat near the mooring post, her rod already resting quietly over the shade-striped water. Clara wanted a solid catch before dusk finally thinned the broad light across the lake. Waiting still echoed the saying patience is a virtue, though the itchy planks made that tricky. She flicked the rod; the float landed near the shadowy tangle where roots spread like open fingers. Moments later the line grew heavy; something stubborn under the surface had gripped the hook. She guessed the hook had been firmly wedged between two hidden roots somewhere down below. She leaned back and lifted, but the rod tip refused to rise even slightly today. Determined, she pressed her thumb on the reel and tried a slow, steady pull; nothing moved except tiny ripples.
Clara set the rod flat, crawled to the shore end, and tugged the line from a sharper side angle. The hidden snag released without warning, and the sudden slack gave a jumpstart to a whip of fiberglass through the warm air. The rod tip smacked her lunch plate; a slice of heaven—cool peach pie—slid across the boards toward Zelda’s foot. Zelda had been loosening her bobber string and noticed nothing until the plate rattled past.
The gliding pie bumped a tin of sinkers; the tin rolled, scattering metal beads that bounced like quick hail. One rolling bead struck an empty water bucket, tipping it just enough to wobble toward the rope-wrapped post. The coarse rope stopped the bucket, leaving crumbs dotted across a fresh clean slate of pale timber. Zelda’s shoulders shook; laughter is the best medicine for clumsy moments, and Clara’s grin grew despite the lost dessert. Clara wiped her sticky fingers on her shorts and stepped back to untangle the loosened line for another cast. Beside the post, the rope loop oscillated gently against the wood, tapping a soft rhythm into the sun-warmed planks.
