English 原文
Ella yanked the small plastic bucket free from the sand beside the rough wooden frame. A damp core clung inside, so the bucket would not release when she tried to flip it. She jerked harder; the sudden pull dislodged a cluster of pebbles resting along the rim. The rolling pebbles struck a toy rake, and the rake began to tumble toward a waiting shovel. The shovel had been planted upright, and its handle pivoted, spraying dry grains across the mat. Ella reached out, but her wrist grazed the metal platform, adding more sway to the hanging ropes. When the motion finally paused, her sandy tower lay shapeless, and the bucket sat half buried.
Gareth, hanging by his knees from the monkey bars, offered a brief shrug when Ella joined him beneath the frame. The rubber ground rebounded softly under their shifting weight, and chain links chimed each time Gareth swung higher. Tiring quickly, Ella wandered to the water fountain; the stiff button pressed hard against her thumb before a thin stream appeared. She balanced her cracked cup under the arc, yet the stream stopped the instant her finger lifted, leaving droplets cooling her knuckles. Nearby, a toddler stomped the rubber mat, sending faint vibrations through Ella's soles and loosening a forgotten acorn. For a fortnight the playground had dried under steady sun; now the surface sand felt almost powdery between her fingers. She traced the low fence, aligning bark chips into tiny rows until the breeze scattered them again.
A gust tipped something against her ankle; the same plastic bucket had rolled free from its shallow hole. Momentum carried the bucket toward the drainage grate, but its rim caught the wooden frame and halted the slide. Ella scooped damp sand—gathered earlier from the seeped corner—packing it firmly before turning the bucket in one smooth arc. The heavier grains held together; when she lifted the bucket away, the tower kept its straight sides without a crumble. If the sand stayed firm, the tower would soon reach Gareth's knee, yet no pebble dared move. The sand that had spilled earlier now slid in a thin ribbon down the tower, spiraling toward the frame.
