Seeds After the Yell-

English 原文
The rolled rim of the paper bag felt damp beneath Eamon’s fingers, though the bench planks beside it gave off a mild honey warmth. He had examined the feeder earlier and left a neat mound of seed in the middle, but a stout sparrow already pecked at one corner, shifting kernels toward the tray’s edge. Thea sat at the far end, her pencil moving across a sketchbook while amber light spilled through leaves above. Eamon stood, crossed the three paces, and poured a careful trickle; some grains bounced, then slid back like tiny marbles. The mound steadied, yet new birds rustled on the tree’s lower branch, waiting for stillness before daring the flight.
A sudden yell broke the quiet. Gravel skidded behind the bench as a jogger veered sideways, ankle twisting. Eamon and Thea hurried over; the jogger waved off help but dropped a small cloth pouch that burst, scattering potpourri and a spicy orange scent across the path. While they scooped the dried petals together, minutes slipped past. When the jogger resumed his run, both siblings jog-walked back to the bench. The feeder scene had shifted: a heavy pigeon had landed and left, tipping the tray and sending seed to the ground scatter zone. Worse, the paper bag’s bottom seam had started to unravel; a thin ribbon of seed streamed through the tear and dotted the warm grass.
Thea caught the leak with cupped palms, and Eamon pinched the loose seam, folding it twice until friction held it closed. Together they scooped the spilled mix, letting grains rain from their hands onto the emptied side of the tray; the flow caused the remaining kernels to veer back toward the center. A goldfinch flickered down at last, its breast catching bronze light as it explored the fresh layer. If they had lingered a minute longer on the path, the spilled seeds would have vanished beneath greedy feet. On the feeder, loose kernels rolled gently each time a breeze brushed the roof, continuing their quiet slide toward the waiting beak.
