Beads Gone Under the Bench-

English 原文
Glass beads rattled against the metal cup wall each time the park bench vibrated under a passing footstep. Tara sat on the shade side of the bench, threads taped across the armrest like narrow ribbons of sunset. Her plan included a shining row of five pale beads, waiting among dozens inside the rattling cup by her shoe. Beside the cup, a small jar saved thread trimmings; its rim stayed faintly sticky after yesterday’s peach jam. June, seated on a grass blanket nearby, turned pages that rustled softly while keeping the scissors out of reach.
A pigeon waddled closer, pecked at a crumb, and nudged the cup so three beads rolled beneath the bench. When Tara bent for them, the working threads slackened, and the half-formed chevron instantly twisted like a loose staircase. Two earlier beads had been threaded already, their slight weight pulling the green strand forward. She retrieved two beads after a short trudge across the paving stones, yet the third slipped beyond her fingertips. The cup held six; the uneven count left her with two options: shorten the bead row or skip decoration. She checked the length against her wrist, then rethreaded three beads so they formed a modest centre framed by coloured knots. Under fresh tension the glass caught sunlight, and tiny flakes of quartz glimmered inside each bead. The modest strip lay straight again, its three pale dots shining while pigeons rustled nearby and threads swayed above the paving.
She continued knotting, but the next row felt stubborn where earlier knots had been shrinking quietly in the afternoon dampness. Every pull needed a firmer pinch, and one corner of the tape lifted, releasing a dry crinkle that startled the pigeon. Tara pressed the tape flat again with her thumb, then finished two calm rows to secure the shorter bead line in place. By the time the playground hum turned softer, the bracelet measured the right length, even without those missing beads. Tara slid it off the armrest, brushed a lone bead from her knee, and watched thread tails drift north on the breeze.
