Feather Across Sunlit Boards-

English 原文
A dark ring of damp wood had spread across a mid-platform plank when Noel stepped from the rope ladder. The mark reflected the early glare, a footprint-shaped silhouette that trembled whenever the branch swayed. He balanced near the branch junction, the tight space feeling like the pinnacle of the whole backyard canopy. Chasing a brilliant idea, he slid a fresh plank over the stain; the overlap might hide the blotch. A nail had been flattened during an earlier attempt, and now it lifted glare like a tiny mirror. Each creak echoed through the hollow trunk, as if the dark space below tried to amplify his misstep.
He edged toward the rope-ladder passage, where pooled glare on the top rung threatened a slip. With one sleeve he wiped the moisture, watching the clean wood return a sharper reflection to his eyes. A gust swung the hoisting bucket wide, and its metal rim brushed bark shards into shimmering dust. He timed a quick grab, steadied the rope, then knotted a lower loop so the sway lost distance. On the ground, Dawn continued coiling spare rope, her silhouette flickering between patches of brilliance and shadow below. Bird wings cut sudden stripes of shade across the planks, and their tiny claws scattered a tantalizing rain of leaf specks. A pile of spare nails caught the shifting light, each head flashing before darkness swallowed it again.
A fresh gust slid the unused plank across the boards until it tapped Noel’s boot near the branch junction. He crouched; the damp ring had faded to a faint halo, the swelling gone under stronger sunlight. He pressed the plank over the halo and drove a nail through softer grain beside the knot. The board eased downward instead of fighting back, and the only sound was a low murmur of wood against bark. A pale feather drifted down, a delightful surprise on the straight grain, and Noel tucked the feather behind the last rung.
