Marco sits on a flat rock. Why does the water dance here? He stays very still. A water strider glides before him. Light laughter drifts across the stream. A market basket rests near his hip. Many round pebbles sparkle below. One square pebble bumps his shoe. He keeps watching the small insect. A cold drip taps his nose.

His eyes blink fast once. He tilts his chin upward. The strider slides out of view. Soft green fern touches his hand. The sun is warm. A pale leaf lands on his shoulder. Water carries the square pebble away. The market basket stays dry. The water strider returns beside the drip. Marco stays still beneath shifting light.
