Warm sand brushes Sara's toes. She stands near two tall rocks. A narrow gap opens between them. Cool air moves through it. A green curtain of seaweed hangs inside. The curtain hides the back wall. Sara bends and looks under. A bright tide pool lies beyond. Foam forms a white blanket on water. Small bubbles pop and glitter. She watches light dance there.

Sara steps along the gentle slope. She reaches a hollow driftwood log. The log has an open hole. She bows and peers through. Inside, a smooth pebble shines. Thin frost rings the pebble edge. Pierce walks beside the log. "I see a tiny shell," he says. Sara nods and keeps looking. A slow wave slides closer. Water seeps into the first gap. The foam blanket is wider now.
