How an Ink Pad Accidentally Steadied the Craft Table-

English 原文
A rectangle of damp newspaper covered the craft table, its blurred ink showing half-dried fern shapes that still glistened. Beside those dark patches, another child's hand flattened a fresh frond, proving the workspace was already in use. Garner, arriving late for the session, let his gaze drop to a wooden jigsaw puzzle resting near the table edge. The polished pieces lay in a shallow tray, every curve warm under his fingertip after steady handling by earlier visitors. Each piece had been carved by hand from pale beech, the edges sanded until not a single splinter remained to catch skin. He lifted a deer-shaped piece, felt the ridged cut line against his thumb, and nudged it toward the empty centre. Soft wood grain met the pads of his fingers, slightly silky yet hiding tiny scratches.
The piece halted a millimetre short of fitting; swollen fibres created stubborn tension against the frame. Garner pressed harder, but the edges refused to sink, and the tray creaked under the slow force of his palm. To persist, he rotated the deer once, tapped its back with a knuckle, and tried sliding it from another angle. Nothing changed, and the session timer on the wall had already slipped past five of the precious ten minutes. A bell by the corridor chimed as new families queued, shrinking the open floor around the craft tables. Keira’s elbow brushed his sleeve, urging him to decide whether to clear space or continue the stubborn task. He chose the latter and slid neighbouring squirrel and grass tiles outward to broaden the central opening. One corner snagged on a gritty speck, so he flicked the obstacle aside with a quick nail.
Footsteps grew louder near the doorway, and Garner propped the tray’s near edge on a thick ink pad, tilting the puzzle forward. Gravity settled each loosened shape, easing the earlier strain without further intervention from his hands. He guided the deer again; its hooves slipped neatly between the boards and clicked into place. The moment he lifted the tray upright, the ink pad skidded loose and wedged beneath a wobbling table leg. The leg steadied, stopping the jars of leaf ink nearby from shivering whenever someone leaned over the table. Garner stepped back and brushed a stray wood shaving off the puzzle tray's rim lightly.
