Wax Drip Redirects the First Slice of Birthday Cake-

English 原文
Xyla pressed the one-piece plastic cutter into the birthday cake while nearby plates clinked against the bright table. The lights had been switched on seconds earlier, yet candle smoke still curled above the extinguished wicks. She aimed for a neat triangle, but the flexible blade bent, and frosting piled against its wide flank. Melted wax slid like a thin, slow river, leaving a delicate shine across the creamy surface. That glossy line would reduce friction, so the cutter wandered sideways, carving a crooked channel that surprised both Xyla and Zara. Zara, holding a stack of forks, carefully steadied a plate and murmured that the cardboard base felt firm beneath everything. Xyla adjusted her grip, pressing slower, yet the bent section caught a bead of wax and nudged the slice outward. A sudden draught under the door flicked smoke toward the cake, reshaping the flowing wax and widening the slippery patch.
Xyla lifted the cutter, straightened the flexible spine with her thumb, then set it back at a steeper angle. If a tiny wax stream pressed against the blade, it would force another sideways waddle across the airy sponge. Zara slipped her free hand beneath the slice, palm flat, creating a living latticework that supported the shifting wedge. That support gradually lessened the cutter's bend, so Xyla pressed again, letting the blade follow the cake's gentler inner line. The slice lifted, yet frosting dribbled downward, meeting Zara's waiting plate where it settled like thick tincture over porcelain. Ceiling light bounced off icing, casting delicate squares along their wrists as meadow sunlight broke through fence gaps. Zara gently nudged the plate backward, blocking further flow, and the ribbon of frosting paused, quivering at the cardboard rim. A faint vanilla smell lingered above the steady drip, hanging in the air like evening mist.
