English 原文
A crisp hiss shot from the flat pan, popped like a tiny firework, and settled into a quiet charcoal whisper. Yara stepped back into the small blue-grey kitchen she knew by heart, the cat winding between her shoes. The batter jug, which had been nudged off its usual tile, rested near the cooling rack, leaving a shiny drip trail. A pale spiral of flour dust curved across the marble slab, crossing two faint paw prints that were not there earlier. She had left the room five minutes before, certain every tool faced north like soldiers on parade. Now the metal spatula lay warm against the pan handle, and the timer’s rubber grouper charm swung slowly on its chain.
She poured the next measure of batter, lifted the pan, and tried to swirl, but the film thickened in the centre. The flame had cooled while she was gone, so the surface lacked the even silver heat she relied on. Yara turned the knob to calibrate the gas flow, waiting for the steady silver-blue song that signalled readiness. While the metal reheated, she checked the forming stack; the fourth crêpe sat three millimetres left of centre. A yardstick leaned nearby, scarred from school projects, and she used its edge to nudge the soft tiers straight. Cream had spread with quiet generosity toward one side, so a cool spatula sweep evened the bulge before it settled.
Just as she reached for the next crêpe, the grey cat flicked its tail across the cooling rack, nudging the front disc. The thin circle slid half over the wire edge and hung there, trembling like a coin balanced on a step. Yara caught it with the spatula, flipped it onto the marble, and noticed the lace pattern was darker than the others. That colour shift matched the thicker centre on the pan, confirming the earlier heat drop she had already corrected. She pressed the rescued layer into place, re-checked alignment with the yardstick, and breathed as the stack stood upright. The cat blinked at the rising tower while Yara rinsed the warm blade, then set the spatula flat on the steel counter.
