A Gardenia Fits After One Sheet Comes Away-

English 原文
"The sleeve looks too wide," Zephyr whispered.
Cool glare from the overhead strips hit the wrapping station, throwing sharp shadows across the tissue rolls. He lifted one crisp sheet and folded it around a single gardenia, its pale petals haloed by the light. Wyatt ambled nearer, the ribbon spool whirring between his fingers, while a parent meandered among greeting cards at the entrance where brightness leaked through the glass door. Thinking the flower still wobbled, Zephyr slid in a second sheet, tucking edges until the form stood straighter. A third sheet soon followed; the bundle now bulged, and the sleeve yawned instead of hugging it. Outside shine flared on the chalkboard, then dimmed as the timed spray nozzle clicked alive.
Mist drifted through the beam and settled with a faint shimmer. A sudden jolt of colder air escaped the refrigerated display when the florist retrieved new roses, and the damp outer layer tore along a crease. Drops flashed on the counter. Zephyr reached for the tape dispenser, its metal teeth glinting, and tried fastening the ripped tissue, yet the thickness refused to slide into the narrow sleeve. The extra folds pushed back like a stiff spring. He rotated the bouquet under the silhouette of his own arm, noticing how only the middle sheet sagged with moisture.
He pinched that soggy layer and peeled it out in one smooth tug. The remaining wrap slackened, then settled; faint reflected gleam traced the simpler shape. With less bulk, the bouquet entered the sleeve at last, and Wyatt looped ribbon once, the strip catching a stripe of light before dropping into shadow. Near Zephyr’s elbow, a stray petal that had fallen earlier now floated on a puddle left by the mist; the petal drifted toward the sleeve and lodged neatly under the ribbon, a small unplanned touch that glowed in the narrowing beam.
