Three Snow Bricks Seal the Fort Entrance-

English 原文
Damp wool pressed against York’s wrists as his gloves gripped the plastic mould; the rim felt sharper after each packing. He tipped the block out onto the entrance gap, but the brick crumbled, and cool crumbs skittered across the blue-grey floor. The wall needed three solid bricks to reach waist height, a clear threshold he could count with his eyes. One down, two still missing. Lena, working on the far curve, glanced over and breathed a cloud of steam, yet kept stacking her own row. York fetched wetter snow from the fence drift, packed again, and lifted; the strain pulled at his shoulders like weightlifting during gym last month. The new brick stayed whole, yet meltwater glossed its sides, proving this technique heavier and more supportive than the first attempt.
A second try followed. Snowflakes had buried the mould halfway, so the tool had been hidden under a fresh silver layer before York brushed it free. He formed another brick, slid it into place, and felt the entrance edges firm. Two sturdy blocks now waited, but a hand-span of open space remained above them. If the next brick slipped, both sides would lean inward. He stepped to the porch, scooped half a ladle of liquid from the surface of the bucket, and carried it back on the metal shovel. Droplets froze instantly where they touched the joints, creating a quick support system of ice between the rows. York packed a final block using the same wet snow, hoisted it carefully, and tapped it into the opening. At once, a soft crack signalled a breakthrough as the three bricks locked together; the gap disappeared beneath a frost-white beam.
The fort interior fell quiet except for snow hissing against the wall top. York stretched his back, and the shovel slipped from his damp glove, landing beside the porch step he had crossed repeatedly. Those trips had flattened every footprint into a neat ramp of compacted snow, accidentally smoothing the path for tomorrow’s deliveries.
