Salmon Ink Pull at the Cherry Block -

English 原文
Marisol's fingers curled around the rubber roller before her thoughts settled, their grip already balanced against the tool's familiar heft. She scooped a spoonful of salmon pigment onto the glass slab, pressed the roller through it, and watched the dense colour spread. At her elbow a small metal flask tipped, releasing a measured trickle of water that kept the rice paper softly receptive. The motions remained mindful of the grain beneath each ridge. Inigo lifted the carved cherry block onto the bench, and its weight landed with a muted thunk that echoed under the table's boards. Light pooled across the slab, turning the pigment into a shallow lake.
The first pass felt routine: roller across ridges, damp sheet lowered, baren circling in slow widening spirals. Yet resistance arrived when the paper peeled away; a faint seam of white bisected the petal where colour once printed solid. Marisol traced the block with a fingertip and located a shallow dip where a ridge had worn smooth through use. The print dangled from the drying line, its uneven weight tugging one corner down like a small confession. Tiny curls of pigment drifted to the trough. Her earlier certainty thinned, but her hands kept moving, clearing dry ink skin from the slab in quiet, deliberate swipes.
A hiss from the courtyard kitchen drifted in, the sound of vegetables meeting hot oil, and the smell of stir-fry coloured the air. Inigo wiped the block's surface with a fresh cloth and observed, "Ink feels thick today." Marisol rolled a paler layer, hoping the pigments would blend across the shallower ridge, yet the baren slid with less grip than before. She paused mid-press, shoulders hanging under the baren's weight, then eased back, listening to its wooden face settle against the paper. The sheet emerged with doubled lines where registration drifted, and the drying print now leaned heavier than its neighbour.
Silence gathered between them, broken only by the soft settlement of ink skins curling on the slab's edge. Inigo stepped away, aligning finished prints on the line, while Marisol stayed before the bench, palm resting on the warmed cherry block. The familiar landscape of ridges no longer read as certainty; every shallow valley suggested a story the chisel never meant to tell. She turned the block ninety degrees, studying weight distribution, then drew a clean sheet near, unsure whether lighter pressure would reveal or erase the missing petal. Her thumb hovered above the corner of the waiting paper, the next pull balanced there in a single breath of possibility.
