Shells Line Up by the Spoon Shadow -

English 原文
A low picnic table stood four steps from the sandbox.
A paper cup held a little water near the center.
Small shells lay beside it in a loose pile.
Cool air moved under the tabletop and brushed Fiona's knees.
Patches of light and leaf-shadow crossed the boards in stripes.
Wind moved the tree, and the bright patch slid away.
The light returned, then dimmed again as branches shifted.
Fiona set the shells in a line on the damp wood.
The surface felt slippery, and one shell began to wobble.
It rolled and tapped the cup; a little water spilled.
Fiona decided to use the bright time to make a guide.
She stood a spoon upright; a straight shadow fell across the table.
She pushed each shell until it touched the dark stripe.
Shade returned, and the stripe softened, but the row stayed.
She began to count, touching every shell with one finger.
"Ten in this row," Fiona said, her mouth close to them.
She slid the last shell into place.
Fiona
Fiona
