English 原文
Keira tilted the watering can, and a dark ring spread around the basil stem in the capillary tray.
Beside the guttered pipe, a palm-sized metal hatch sat slightly proud of the bench, its edge rough with orange bloom.
Warm, greenish light pressed against her sleeves while the ridge vent cracked a quarter-turn and thinned the air above her head.
Drops gathered on the glass, then accelerated into quick runs that stitched bright lines through the fogged panes.
She slid two fingers under a waxy leaf, its cool underside tapping her knuckles while the hanging basket touched her shoulder.
A white ring lined a saucer near her wrist, a thin crust mapped by old water that had gone and come again.
"It's open," Dorian said near the crank, and the thin chain swayed once against the iron frame.
Water ticked from an overhead joint into a clay tray, steady as a clock she could count with her thumb on the handle.
A pale butterfly drifted in through the vent gap, circled a glossy leaf twice, and rested on the warm clay rim.
Her elbow brushed a saucer, and the little hatch rocked, not by much, only enough to show it sat a touch wedged.
She held the can mid-pour, shoulders pausing while a single thread of water shook and hung between spout and soil.
The can came down on the bench, and her thumb rubbed the metal rim until orange dust darkened the crease of her skin.
Where the surface had started to oxidise, the colour lifted easily, and a faint metallic smell lived on her fingertips.
She tapped the edge with a wooden label, and the circle rose a millimetre before sliding back to its seat.
Another try gave a cleaner click, and the piece tilted enough to show a dark throat narrowing below like a built-in funnel.
She leaned over it, palm steady on the warm bench, while dry air from the vent brushed her cheek and cooled the sweat there.
Her gaze slid to the waiting basil, then back to the opening, and the pause held until she reached for the can again.
She bent nearer and held her breath for a beat, and a travelling glug knocked softly inside the bench frame.
She poured a little, nothing more than a sip, and the first bead found the rim and ran inward along the chamfer.
Sound changed at once; under the bench a buried line carried it away, and a faint ring on a far tray darkened by a shade.
The same chalky crust she had taken for simple residue now framed the mouth she had opened, pale where water had not reached for days.
"Strange little cap," Dorian said, his hands deep in seedlings, soil marking his wrists.
The bright stream left the spout in a clean arc and slipped towards the funnel's throat.

- accelerate
“Beads paused on the pane, then accelerated, stitching quick silver lines through the greenhouse fog.”
- hatch
“The metal hatch finally tipped with a clean click, revealing the narrow throat beneath the warm bench.”
- funnel
“The bright pour arced cleanly and vanished into the bench’s built-in funnel, sound thinning as it fell.”
- oxidise
