The Harbor Sketch- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light filled the small harbor. Mia carried a sketchbook and short pencil. She wanted to draw the tiny hummingbird today. An endless line of boats rocked beside the pier. The bird zipped over bright water and stopped above rope. Mia sat, opened her book, and marked the first outline. Sudden wind flipped the page and tore it loose. The sheet glided away and landed on a moving crate. The crate rolled, bumped a post, and tipped a bucket. Water splashed her shoes; gray lines began to fade.

Mia chased the page, arms waving near the bucket. She caught it but dropped her only pencil. The pencil bounced, slid between planks, and disappeared below. A rough charcoal piece lay near an old rope. She grabbed it and solaced her cold fingers between breaths. Using charcoal, she redrew the fading lines with bold strokes. The hummingbird hovered again and watched the moving hand. It darted away as Mia finished the dark sketch. A soft wave settled, and the page stayed still. Mia closed the sketchbook at last.

米亞追著紙頁，雙臂在水桶旁揮動。她抓住它卻掉了唯一的鉛筆。鉛筆彈跳，滑進木板縫隙，消失在下方。一塊粗炭條躺在舊繩旁。她撿起它，用呼氣慰藉冰冷的手指。用炭條，她重新描繪正逐漸淡去的線條，筆觸更粗。蜂鳥再次懸停，注視著移動的手。當米亞完成深色素描時，它飛離了。一陣柔浪平息，紙頁保持靜止。米亞終於合上素描本。
