Lifted by the Wave- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light filled the narrow shore.

A young goat stepped onto smooth stones near a low cave. Salt rings marked where the last tide stopped. Fresh green moss hung high on a dark wall inside. The goat stretched its neck toward the hanging food. He moved forward, but wet rocks slipped under his hooves. His first attempt ended with a quick stumble. A tiny line of crabs crossed the floor beside him. The front crab marched faster, clear leader of the file. Water still stayed low, and the space remained open.

A distant roar grew, and cold water rushed inside the cave. Rocks turned slick, and the goat jumped back to dry sand. The water pulled away again, leaving shining pools behind. Another surge arrived, then vanished like the first. Water rushed, then left once more, spreading white foam. During the next dry beat, he pushed a flat plank closer. The plank rested on pebbles below the mossy wall. A fresh wave rolled in and lifted the plank gently. The goat rode the slow rise and discovered new height. The new height let him reach the moss and chew quietly. Foam slipped away, leaving wet hoofprints around the drifting plank.

晨光照亮狹窄的海岸。

遠處的轟聲漸大，冰涼海水衝入洞穴。岩石變得濕滑，山羊跳回乾沙地。水又退去，只留下閃亮小水潭。另一波潮水沖來，又像先前那樣消失。海水再度衝進又退開，白色泡沫鋪散。下一次地面變乾時，他推近一塊平木板。木板停在長滿苔蘚的牆下碎石上。新一波潮水湧入，輕輕抬起木板。山羊隨著緩慢升高的木板一起上升，也就得到了新的高度。這個高度讓他夠到苔蘚，靜靜咀嚼。泡沫退去，濕蹄印圍繞著漂浮的木板。
