English 原文
Willa and Ivan stepped into the market under sun-bleached stripes of an old awning. A ginger cat slipped along the stall legs and watched from the shade. Ivan had set their rendezvous with Liora at the clock by the square. Warm air met cool shade under the awning, and the smell of oranges mixed with fish salt.
Willa stopped at a stall with tin toys and old postcards with curled corners. She lined three smooth stones on a canvas mat and spaced them with her fingers. She turned a fourth stone and felt its cool back warm in her palm. On a flat tin tray, a wind-up ferry clicked forward with a neat mechanical beat. Its little wheels tapped shallow dents and kept a straight line across the tray. The paint on its side showed tiny chips from years of play.
The crowd moved like water, and a wide basket brushed a string of dried lemon. The slices swung and clipped the ferry’s side, so its bow turned toward the mat. It rolled onto the canvas and nudged Willa’s careful line, and two stones shifted. The cat rose on its front paws against the counter and tracked the toy with steady eyes. Willa gave a small shrug, slid the stones into a new curve, and made more space. The ferry continued its small voyage, now tracing a pale path in the mat’s dust. Ivan rested a hand near Willa’s elbow, and his open palm held two worn coins. The tin ferry ticked past the new stones and turned.
