Nội dung truyện
English Bản gốc
Dashiel leaped onto the broad wooden sill beneath the kitchen window. A crust of white frost covered the glass, except for thin dark tunnels between crystals. Through those tunnels, orchard branches and a pale meadow stood blurred but recognizable beyond the pane. A faint crackle ran along the glass while warm air from the vent brushed Dashiel’s fur. The meadow lay under a thin skin of frost, shining like brushed silver in the sunrise. A robin hopped over the blank snow beneath a branch, leaving dotted footprints that matched the window specks.
Dashiel touched the glass with one paw; cold needles stung his pads and faded quickly. A misty oval melted outward, revealing a sharper slice of the orchard. He pressed his nose next, leaving a smaller warm circle that dripped and then glittered around the rim. A whisker brushed the surface, scraping crystals with a faint hiss like sand sliding over paper.
On the table behind him, a tin teapot began to click as water reached simmer. Steam lifted, drifted across the sill, and slid onto the window like a soft gray sheet. The new warmth cleared a sudden path; orchard trunks appeared taller, and a distant red shed surprised him. In the hallway, Garner called, “Breakfast is ready; we can discuss snow forts after dishes.” Dashiel twitched an ear toward the voice yet kept watching the shifting frost, unable to communicate his findings. Crystals crept back over the cleared spots while his pawprints dimmed to pale smudges. He hopped down, leaving watery marks on the sill that cooled and turned dull within seconds.
Bản dịch

Story Discussion - Dashiel at the Window
Sight: a crust of white frost on the glass with thin dark tunnels revealing blurred orchard branches and a pale meadow; a shiny, brushed-silver frost on the meadow and a distant red shed. Touch: cold needles that stung Dashiel's paw pads and smaller warm circles where his nose and paw touched. Sound: a faint crackle along the glass, a hiss when a whisker scraped the surface, and the tin teapot beginning to click as water reached simmer.
Yes — the warm air from the vent and the steam from the teapot melted parts of the frost, forming clear paths through the crystals.
Water in the teapot approached simmer and produced steam; the steam and warm air drifted across the sill and onto the glass; the new warmth melted parts of the frost, clearing narrow paths; through those cleared areas Dashiel could see the orchard trunks and the distant red shed more clearly.
Dashiel felt curious and focused on the changing frost; he was excited or intrigued by the new clear patches and the sights they revealed, so even though he heard Garner and wanted to respond, his attention stayed on the window because he wanted to observe and understand what was happening.

Role Play - The frosted window moment
練習目標:讓學習者分飾 Dashiel(試圖描述他在窗上看到的細節——像是知更鳥的點點腳印、霧狀橢圓和紅色小屋)和 Garner(忙著叫吃早餐、決定是否停下來看一看),練習用英文快速描述感官細節並說服對方停下來觀察,或禮貌地拒絕並保持日常節奏。
- •“Garner, come look—there's a misty oval on the glass and I can see a red shed through it!”
- •“Breakfast is ready and the teapot is clicking—can you tell me quickly what you see at the window?”
Vocabulary & Grammar Focus

sill
Dashiel jumped up onto the wide wooden sill under the kitchen window.
frost

A faint crackle ran along the glass while warm air from the vent brushed Dashiel’s fur."
