One blue car rolls farther.
It slips under the shelf.
Dust sits at the back.
Hartley crouches and reaches under.
His fingertips touch cool wood.
The car is just behind the front leg.
His palm rests on a cool flat block.
A thin crayon scratch lines its smooth face.
He slides the block under.
He nudges the car out.
A small marble rolls out too.
It wobbles.
It stops.
The blue car sits in the row.
Hartley taps it into place.
"There it is," the father says.
The bear stays on his lap.
Hartley brushes a dusty line from the bumper.
Hartley slides one more car on the city road.
