Small wooden toys wait on the sill.
Dust specks drift.
Ada lifts a wooden duck.
The duck is from vacation.
She sets it in the beam.
Her fingers touch the smooth wood.
A fine dust line sits there.
A faded band marks the wall.
The duck tilts.
Its shadow wobbles on the stripe.
Ada turns the duck a little.
The base meets a flat spot.
A thin line shows on the wall.
It runs through the dark shape.
The grandfather says, "There is a line here."
Ada places a star magnet next.
She places a small block third.
She nudges each into the beam.
Three dark shapes touch the line.
Warm light rests on Ada's hand.
The rug fold deepens under knees.
Now three small shadows line the crack.
