Emma read a small poster near the town lake. It announced a snack contest for children on Saturday. She smiled and chose to enter with her best friend, Mia. They planned a fruit cup that would combine berries and soft cake. Next day they bought bright yellow bananas, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream. Their bags bumped together, and their quick footsteps echoed along Main Street.

Saturday arrived, and the small kitchen buzzed with early energy. Emma placed every utensil on the counter, except the mixing spoon. The spoon hid behind a jar, so Mia grabbed a fork. They began to slice fruit, fold cream, and sprinkle tiny cake cubes. A bell rang, and teams carried their bowls forward. Emma lifted her bowl, and a hidden note touched her hand. The note said one word: "treat". The judge laughed, and the room filled with sudden laughter from everyone. He explained that the secret note marked the surprise bonus winner. Emma and Mia accepted small medals, then shared extra fruit with friends. They cleaned the counter and stacked every bowl. Emma turned off the bright kitchen light.
