English 原文
A brass quartet near the revolving doors blasted a brisk fanfare, and the sudden wave of sound bounced off marble pillars at Central Station. Milo adjusted the thin string around a palm-sized parcel and fixed his gaze on the fountain glittering beyond the ticket gates; the nine-oh-five bus waited beside it, clock digits already glowing 08:57. Suitcases rattled past, coats brushed his elbows, and a stroller’s wheel clipped his heel, nudging him sideways. He angled his own trajectory to slip between two commuters reading the same glowing timetable, each step threading him deeper into the shifting current of bodies.
The ticket reader flashed red, halting him; he flipped the card, pressed again, and the barrier slid apart. Overhead speakers unleashed a barrage of platform changes, their metallic voices spinning every head nearby. Rain hammered the glass roof, umbrellas snapped shut, and droplets scattered across polished tiles. A paper cup, knocked loose by an elbow, traced a lazy arc before landing against Milo’s shoe. He scanned the crowd, weighed the blocked main corridor against a narrower service passage on the left, and through quick deduction chose the quieter route. The dim side hallway smelled of varnish and brass polish; musicians in loose shirts stacked instrument cases, and a tuba burped a low note that made Milo jump. His parcel slipped, the lid lifted just enough to show a folded origami crane, then settled as he tightened the string again.
Light widened ahead, revealing the fountain basin and the waiting bus. The clock upon the façade blinked 09:04. Milo lengthened his stride, rain-cooled air brushing his cheeks. The bus door hung open while a driver counted coins; inside, his friend leaned toward the aisle with eyebrows raised in wordless question. Milo reached the curb, stretched across the low step, and the parcel slid from his fingers into his friend’s waiting hands. The door folded shut, tires hissed on wet asphalt, and the vehicle rolled away, its windows streaked with pale water. Behind Milo, the quartet struck the opening notes of another fanfare, softer now under the high roof, and footsteps dispersed across the concourse. Water from the fountain rested in a shallow ring around the stone rim.
