Leo balanced his old camera at the edge of Pine Park. He has waited all summer for this moment. He had planned this quest since spring, hoping to discover the snow-white squirrel spoken about by local walkers. Afternoon light filtered through the leaves, yet two problems appeared at once. The playful animal darted from branch to bench faster than his lens could follow. At the same time, the battery blinked an urgent red that counted every second. The first picture is ruined by a sudden soccer ball that rolls across his feet. Leo steps back, steadies himself, and wipes dust from the lens. A brisk wind shakes the tallest branches, raining dry needles onto his shoulders.

He changes strategy. Instead of chasing, he kneels beside a quiet fountain and scatters a small handful of sunflower seeds. Their warm smell drifts over the grass; a grey shape edges closer, nose twitching. Then the surprise arrives from above. With a brave leap, the squirrel lands directly on the camera, and the jolt presses the shutter. The flash startles both photographer and animal.
