English 原文
Mason stopped at the edge of the small community garden that divided his quiet suburb from the railway fence. He had waited all week for a glimpse of the bright-chested robin rumored to live among the ivy. His phone, already opened to the camera app, warmed in his hand. The bushes had been trimmed by volunteers, so fewer hiding places remained, and Mason’s curiosity sharpened with every rustle. A silver watering can lay near a bench, reflecting the first sunlight. He stepped closer, lifted the device, and held his breath, yet the branches only rocked once before falling still again.
An unexpected hiss cut the silence; thin jets of water burst from hidden pipes, spraying his shoes and lens. If he had known about the automatic sprinkler, he would have chosen a drier corner. Mason retreated behind the shed, wiping the screen with a sleeve, but droplets blurred every outline. While he waited, the elderly caretaker unlocked the tool cabinet and rolled out bags of seed. The man nodded toward the wheelbarrow, adjusted his hat, then left without a single word. Near the doorway, an empty wooden box balanced on the rim of a wheelbarrow. Mason turned it over in his hands and noticed tiny holes already drilled into the base.
He slipped a handful of seed inside the box and propped it on a low stone, expecting little. Yet, within three short minutes, a sudden flutter of color skimmed the dark green hedge. The robin landed on the edge of the box, exploring the fresh vocabulary of sounds the seeds made against the wood. Mason’s thumb pressed the shutter, once, twice; the image froze the moment like a still frame in early cinema. When the bird rose again, he spotted a small sticker beneath the stone. It marked the box as part of a neighborhood wildlife project that visitors were free to use and return. In the quiet garden, the new feeder stood beside the caretaker's bench.
