Mara Before the Brass Door-

English 原文
Late afternoon light slipped across the square as Mara entered the quiet cathedral, clutching a sketchpad. Her lecturer had assigned every student to capture an overlooked detail of the city. Mara’s target waited behind the nave: a forgotten brass door whose hinges had been forged by smiths following ancient traditions. Dust hung in the air. A single lantern, suspended near the choir stalls, rocked gently and painted restless shapes on the stone. Mara waited until the sway calmed, yet the darkness still covered the engraving she hoped to record.
She knelt, but her pencil snapped at the first stroke. If Mara had carried a spare, the delay would have ended there; instead she rose, brushed grit from her knees, and lifted the lantern. Its warm glow revealed more than expected. A faint outline—a memory imprint of countless palms sliding across the metal—crossed the door like a map. Her shoulders drew upward, and her breath quickened; then the lantern guttered, and smoke spiraled toward the ceiling. She set it down, coaxed the wick to steadier flame, and tried again. Green patches hid several lines, so she blew gently and switched to charcoal when graphite failed.
Minutes passed, and the outline on her page finally matched the polished swirls before her. She had almost finished when a hidden bolt clicked; the panel shifted and opened a finger’s width. If Mara had noticed the crack earlier, she would have saved many precious minutes. Through the gap, a mirror image of her drawing glimmered on an inner plate, as clean as the day it was sealed, its curves echoing a pendant her grandmother once wore. Mara lowered her pad, cooled the charcoal with a breath, and the brass door rested in steady lamplight.
