She stretched, the pole rattling against a bollard, and the net’s rim knocked a rope loose. The rope slapped the surface, startled gulls beat upward, and a shallow wave nudged the jar beyond arm’s reach. Maris steadied herself, took a slower breath, then leaned again. This time the pole twisted; wet aluminum forced her wrist sideways, and the net splashed empty.
