The final ribbon lay near a quiet brook.
Maya held the map and walked along the narrow path.
Green moss covered stones beside the water.
She stepped on one stone and it rocked forward.
The wobble pushed a light bucket that rested nearby.
Water spilled from the bucket and soaked the ribbon.
The ribbon drifted into the brook and floated away.
Leo jumped after it but the water moved too fast.
The ribbon stayed important because it marked the finish spot.
Maya noticed a long branch stuck under a fallen trunk.
She pulled the branch free and handed it to Leo.
They stretched the branch across the brook like a tiny bridge.
The ribbon hooked on the wood and stopped drifting downstream.
Together they lifted the wet ribbon back onto dry ground.
Mud splashed their shoes, yet both kids laughed aloud.
Under the ribbon they discovered a bright coin nobody expected.
That small surprise turned the simple walk into an extra story.
Maya slipped the coin into her pocket and stepped forward.
Leo lifted the dry ribbon and tied it around a stick.
