Milo Inside the Reopened Greenhouse-

English 原文
Milo had waited thirty humid days for the school greenhouse to unlock again. Outside, the early-morning fog lifted slowly, leaving shining beads of water on the cracked flagstones. The space had been isolated under quarantine after a wandering moth laid eggs on the herb beds. Every half-finished student project then silently froze behind the broad panes of steamed glass. Now the door swung wide, releasing scents of soil and citrus flowers prepared for pollination by busy bumble-bees. Along the central table, slim twigs supported chrysalises that had been arranged by Ms. Rivera before spring break. Each shell mirrored the plump caterpillar that once softly munched celery leaves. Perspiration gathered on Milo’s brow as he raised his camera, searching for the first ripple of wings among silent pots.
He had expected an easy shot, yet resistance appeared at once. The battery indicator suddenly blinked bright red after only two hurried frames. If it had held its charge, he would have caught the moment. He silently wished he had checked the battery during chemistry class an hour earlier. Digging through his canvas bag, he finally found a forgotten spare cell. But the lens clouded while he replaced it, streaked by moisture clinging to warm air. Milo buffed the glass with his sleeve, set the tripod, and focused again. A spontaneous draft slipped through the vents, rocking the twig, and the emerging butterfly lurched out of view. He adjusted aperture, shortened exposure, and steadied the branch with a loose string rescued from a seed packet.
At last the insect unfolded patterned wings, balanced like stained glass against the humid light. Milo pressed the shutter, certain the frame would hold steady this time. Later, while reviewing the shot in the empty media room, he noticed something the greenhouse mirrors had secretly added. Across the delicate wings, a reflection of the distant landscape curved like a small rainbow, framing the butterfly with hills and sky. If the draft had not delayed him, that rainbow would have missed the frame entirely. On the wooden desk, the camera body rested beside the luminous print.
