English 原文
Low tide exposed the narrow sand bridge that linked the mainland to the old lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula. Leo tightened the straps of his small rucksack and stepped forward; the compacted sand sank slightly under each boot. He planned to traverse the strip before the water returned. Wind carried the nuance of salt and pine, and flecks of spray dotted his glasses. On the left, shallow pools rippled; on the right, reeds tilted. Halfway across, benches stood in a rough circle around a blackened fire ring—evidence of last night’s coming-of-age dance held by the village teenagers. Shoe prints crisscrossed, some still sharp, others already blurred by the breeze. Leo paused to watch a gull drop a shell, then pressed on, boot soles tapping against forgotten bottle caps and bits of ribbon snagged in the sand.
The sand path rose into a wooden walkway where planks groaned under shifting weight. Ropes, once bright, now pale, interweave through the railing like loose stitches. At the far end, a low gate blocked the lighthouse yard. Leo wrapped fingers around its chilled handle; the latch refused to lift. He leaned back, shoulders braced, then gave the handle a short, sharp jerk. Metal scraped, hinges shuddered, and the gate finally swung inward, scattering a sleepy cluster of sand hoppers. Beyond it, grass tufts sprouted between cobbles, and a single window of the tower caught a blade of light, sending it across the yard like a thin flash. Leo’s boots clicked over the stones, echo bouncing up the cylindrical wall as he tested the heavy door. This one yielded without protest, opening onto a dim circular room.
Ribbons of every color lay in damp spirals across the floorboards, remnants of the night’s celebrations. Between the ribbons, dozens of tiny shore crabs scuttled, claws tapping wood like loose buttons. The surprise halted Leo’s next step; he shifted weight to his back foot while the crustaceans fanned out toward darker corners. Above, the inner staircase spiraled upward, iron steps wet from condensation. Leo removed a pocket torch and snapped its beam along the wall, revealing tidewater seeping through hairline cracks—each droplet catching light, a moving strand that seemed to interweave with the colored ribbons below. Sea and celebration had mingled without planning, leaving the room half-party, half-rock pool. Leo knelt, gathered a stray ribbon, and draped it over the doorknob to dry. Outside, foam hissed against the stones near the open door.
