English 原文
Jonah the village milkman balanced six glass bottles on a rattling wooden cart. The cart creaked along a narrow lane that cut through wide lavender fields shimmering under the late morning sun. Eva, a traveling illustrator, walked beside him, her folded easel tapping against the wheels at every bump. Jonah had started before dawn, and he hoped to finish his route before the bottles lost their chill. Delivering milk formed his vocation, yet he welcomed company on the long ridge. For Eva, the walk felt like a quiet quest for new colors, though no one spoke of missions or glory.
Halfway up the ridge, a flock of geese wandered onto the track and blocked the cart. Jonah clapped, but the birds only fluttered and settled again, spreading white wings over the ruts. Eva lifted a loose board and waved it like a sail; feathered bodies parted just enough for the cart to roll. Moments later, an unexpected pebble jammed beneath the left wheel, tipping two bottles until foamy milk flecked the dirt. If they had carried fewer bottles, the climb would have been easier, yet the cottage required every drop. By the time the crest appeared, sweat darkened Jonah’s shirt while Eva’s sketches fluttered in the light wind.
The stone cottage stood beyond an iron gate, its door already open and the air rich with warm bread. Inside, an elderly potter arranged cups, unaware of the small catastrophe on the hill. He smiled at the last two bottles but pointed to a row of identical ones, delivered early by another route. Jonah blinked; his vocation had been doubled without warning, and the extra milk now sat unused. Eva crouched, dipped a clean brush into the spilt puddle, and traced quick circles across the rough courtyard wall. Milky swirls met purple petals that already flourished along the cracks, turning the accident into an unplanned mural. Beside the gate, two fresh sketches rested against a crate.
