English 原文
Mira guided a narrow rowing boat toward the old pier, and a small beagle named Biscuit balanced at the bow. She had studied the tide tables earlier that morning, yet the water still rose higher than predicted. Warm salt air clung to her skin while broken sunlight flickered through gaps in the planks above. A green-glass bottle bobbed beneath those boards, and its shifting colors seemed ready to inspire her next sketch.
She tied one end of a rope to a cleat, weighing options for a secure knot. The rope proved short, so the boat slipped sideways before she could moor it. Biscuit paddled his paws against the edge, rocking the hull and forcing Mira to navigate the drift once more. If she had carried a longer rope, the task would have ended sooner; instead, she pulled the craft back, looped the line around an iron ring, and wedged her paddle between two beams for stability. From this angle, the bottle remained out of reach, trapped between barnacle-covered posts.
A stray wave nudged the hull, and the paddle knocked loose, yet that mistake became a tiny breakthrough: the water surged through a crack, lifting the bottle into open current. Mira stretched a net over the side, and Biscuit leaned so far that his ears brushed the surface. Glass tapped against wood; her fingers closed around the wet neck at last. She uncorked it, half-expecting a message, but only seawater trickled out. Sunlight passed through the empty cylinder, throwing bright bands across Biscuit’s white paws. Colored light from the bottle rested on the wet boards.
