English 原文
A thin slice of afternoon light fell through the garage roof. Maya had spent the entire weekend shaping cardboard panels until a stubby spacecraft curved in her hands. Silver foil caught rays, throwing dots across the floor like small planets. A paper astronaut waited behind the clear plastic of an old sandwich box, already buckled into the cockpit. The project was no toy; it mirrored the battered poster above the tool bench, where a real launch tower once glowed. Her jaw pressed forward; determination showed in the steady rhythm of her scissors as she trimmed the final antenna. The day grew quieter, and she angled a ladder beneath the ceiling beam to lower the craft outside for its first glide.
The ladder shook when she shifted her weight. A rope, already looped through the beam, had been fastened earlier with two tight knots. She clipped the rope to the nose ring, but the first tug sent dust raining down and the line jumped free. If the rope had held, the model would have landed smoothly on the driveway. Instead, cardboard wings scraped the rungs, and foil crinkled. She steadied the craft against her chest, adjusted the knot, and tried again. A passing gust slipped through the open door, turning the astronaut figure sideways and revealing a small battery switch she had forgotten to secure.
On the third attempt, the knots gripped. She released the line inch by inch until the spacecraft hovered a fingertip above the ground. The loose switch clicked, and weak propellers beneath the belly started to hum. Silver foil flashed, shaping a brief vision of aspiration above the driveway. The rope spun, unwinding faster than her gloves could catch, and the model drifted over the fence, brushed a row of hanging towels, then settled in the neighbor’s flowerbed. Maya’s shoulders lifted with a breath; her lifelong dream of flight now lay only a few steps away. The cardboard hull rested among marigolds, paint still shining under porch light.
