English 原文
Rainwater from a cracked skylight dotted the concrete floor as Milo stepped into the storage hangar. A retired research spacecraft sat in the gloom, its silver panels dulled by years of dust. He had come to witness that surface up close and sketch every scar for an architecture class project on abandoned technology. Rust spread in exponential freckles across the nose cone, each circle slightly larger than the one beside it. A thin ladder leaned against the hull; he climbed, notebook tucked under his arm, boots tapping against metal that once crossed the upper atmosphere.
At cockpit height he unfolded a small stool, yet one leg slipped on an oily patch and clattered. He steadied it with his foot, then knelt beside a square maintenance hatch. The latch refused to move. Trial and error followed: a tug, a tap with a pen, another tug, a twist from a different angle. On the fourth attempt the seal broke with a dry snap, sending a puff of cold air across Milo’s cheek. Dust motes floated away, spinning in the thin beam of the skylight that shifted whenever wind bent the broken glass above.
Inside the hatch lay a foam-wrapped package once meant for zero-g botany tests. The outer label had flaked; only faded lines remained. A corner of the wrapper had torn, and through that gap something living pushed forward. Tiny leaves curled, their edges bright even in the dim light. The growth startled Milo so much that his pencil slipped; graphite streaked across an earlier sketch. He leaned closer. Moisture from the leaking roof must have trickled inside over seasons, feeding seeds forgotten by engineers who expected only vacuum and silence here.
He lowered the foam to the floor, pages rustling as he added a hurried drawing of the unexpected seedlings. Each line captured the fragile stems as they trembled under the draft from a ceiling vent that clicked on without warning. Far above, a gull cried through the opening glass, its echo mixing with the hum of distant machinery. Milo closed his notebook, placed it beside the ladder, and wiped dust from his sleeves while the hangar’s heavy door groaned on its rails behind him. Four pale sprouts rested inside the open hatch.
