“Pass the jar.”

Lena slid the glass jar across the wooden bench beside the bean bed. Ben removed the lid, and the delicious smell of mashed berries drifted into the warm air. A shallow tile already waited on the soil, part-filled with yesterday’s rainwater. He lifted a wooden spoon and let one thick drop fall. The drop met the surface with a satisfying plop, spread outward, and left a purple ring. For a moment, both children watched the color swirl, pulled by tiny currents under the water skin. Lena scooped again, but this time she raised the spoon higher. The purple dye dived faster, then curved like smoke before slowing near the edge.

She traded places with Ben, tilting the tile toward the herb row. The moving water carried the dye on a gentle journey across the pale ceramic. A thin ridge of dry clay blocked the stream for two heartbeats, yet the dense color soon overcame the barrier and spilled into a new pool beside a marigold stem. Ben answered by adding a bead of blue ink. The ink twirled with the berry purple, shaping green clouds where the tones met. Curious, Lena dripped a little liquid soap; sudden feathers blossomed across the surface, surprising them both. They repeated the steps, each angle or extra drop altering the pattern again. A bee circled above the colors, wings beating over the wet shine. Streaks of purple, blue, and pale green spread across the flat tile from their combined pours. Thin rivulets kept crawling toward the grass beyond the stone.

「把罐子遞過來。」

莉娜把玻璃罐沿著木長凳推到豆苗旁。班打開蓋子，壓碎莓果的香甜氣味在暖空氣中散開。一片淺色瓷磚早已放在土面，裡頭存著昨夜的雨水。他舉起木勺，讓一滴濃稠汁液落下。那滴子嗆地一聲碰到水面，向外擴開，留下紫色光圈。短短一瞬間，兩人盯著顏色被水下細小水流牽動而旋轉。莉娜又舀了一勺，這回把勺子抬高些；紫色染料衝得更快，像煙般彎曲後才在邊緣放慢。

她和班換了位置，把瓷磚朝香草行微微傾斜。流動的水把染料溫柔地送向瓷面另一端。乾硬黏土形成的細脊阻住水流兩下，但濃色很快越過障礙，在萬壽菊莖旁形成新水窪。班滴入一點藍墨，墨色與漿紫糾纏，交界處生成綠雲。莉娜好奇地點進少許肥皂液；瞬間羽毛形條紋在水面綻開，把兩人嚇了一跳。他們重複動作，每次改變角度或多添一滴，都讓圖案再變。蜜蜂在顏色上方盤旋，翅膀拍動濕亮表面。紫、藍與淡綠的條紋因兩人接力倒注而鋪滿平磚，細小水脈持續爬向石外的草叢。
