The Flipped Tray- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Morning light filled the narrow lane.

June pushed a folded table toward her small market spot. She planned to display warm cookies beside a jug of juice. A metal cover blocked the table surface and refused to lift. June pulled the handle with both hands. The cover stayed firm; nothing moved. She tapped the cover with her spatula. The tap gave a hollow sound under the metal surface. June pressed the center, not the edge. The sheet bent slightly, then popped open along a hidden seam.

Two trays slid forward, bumping the bar. One tray flipped, scattering cookies across cloth. Crumbs scattered; sugar powder floated above. She laughed, then quickly arranged the cookies neatly into small rings. The broken pattern looked better than her first plan. Extra space now held the jug and a bowl of mix. Sweet smell drifted toward early shoppers nearby. June wiped the table edges, stepping back. Crumbs dotted the striped cloth beside the open table.

清晨的光線灑滿狹窄的小巷。

琦雯把折疊桌推到她在市集的小位置。她打算把溫熱餅乾擺在果汁壺旁邊。金屬蓋擋住桌面，怎麼拉也打不開。琦雯雙手拉把手，蓋子仍紋風不動。她用鏟子輕敲蓋子。敲擊聲在金屬下傳出空洞回音。琦雯改按中間，而不是邊緣。薄板微微彎曲，接著從隱藏的縫線彈開。

兩個烤盤滑向前方，撞到橫桿。有一個翻轉，餅乾灑滿布面。碎屑四散，糖粉在上方漂浮。她笑著，迅速把餅乾整齊排成小圈。打亂的圖形反而比原先計畫更好看。騰出的位置現在放得下果汁壺和一碗麵糊香味飄向附近的早到顧客。琦雯擦了擦桌邊，退後一步。碎屑點綴在條紋布上，伴著敞開的桌面。
