The Towel Drop- 適合初級的英語短篇故事

Warm light fell across the small kitchen.

Blake opened the oven and lifted a metal tray. He planned a simple activity: place cakes on the plate. A sweet smell promised a delicious result.

However, the plate touched a spoon near the sink. The spoon slid forward and hit a stack of cups. The cups rolled, and one cup knocked a small jar. Sugar spilled over the clean counter and formed bright lines. A workbook from yesterday's lesson slid to the floor.

Blake stepped back, then changed grip and balanced the tray. He moved slower, bending knees and keeping elbows close. This small improvement stopped more cups from falling. Yet a towel with a bright designer pattern slid off the hook. It landed on the tray and covered the cakes.

Blake set the tray on the table at last. He lifted the towel and found dents in each cake. They still smelled delicious, so he smiled and grabbed a fork. Steam rose while he broke the first dented cake.

布雷克往後退一步，換了握法，穩住烤盤。他動作放慢，彎曲膝蓋，手肘貼近身體。這個小改進阻止更多杯子跌落。但一條帶有亮麗設計圖案的毛巾從掛鉤滑下。它落在烤盤上，把蛋糕蓋住了。

終於，布雷克把烤盤放到桌上。他掀開毛巾，看到每個蛋糕都出現小凹痕。蛋糕仍散發可口香味，他露出笑容，拿起一支叉子。當他掰開第一個壓扁的蛋糕時，蒸氣升了起來。
