Sam lifted the small watering can.

Morning light filled the tiny kitchen.

He aimed at a delicate herb by the window.

He bent close to nurse the herb back to strength.

This responsible task needed calm hands and slow pours.

The can was heavy, so water rushed too fast.

The first splash slid across the shelf.

Wet paper sheets shifted and pushed a glass marble.

The dreamy sphere rolled toward a wooden spoon.

A faint smell of soil reached the moving marble.

The spoon tipped forward and struck a small bell.

The bright ring startled the house cat on the chair.

Fur puffed up, the cat leaped onto the shelf.

Its quick paws blocked the rolling marble at once.

Water still dripped, but the living barrier stopped more chaos.

Tiny drops pattered onto the floor tiles below.

Dean ran in to assist, holding towels for the puddle.

The cat's tail swished above the spreading water line.
