English 原文
Gravel skittered under Noel’s shoes as he jogged along the curving park path, a wooden sailboat balanced between his palms. Pale light slipped through silver clouds, and a breeze cooler than the stone drinking fountain brushed his face. A lone goose dipped its head near the water’s edge, black feet leaving shallow prints on the blue-grey concrete. Bright tape had been stretched across one section of the fountain wall after last week’s charity auction, and the loose strip now fluttered like a signal flag. The chill wind seemed to set the stage for an experiment: Noel crouched, placed the tiny boat on the rippling surface, and gave it a gentle push.
The craft drifted only a meter before the breeze turned, pushing it back toward the wall. Noel picked up a narrow pinecone, decided to take a leap of faith, and nudged it forward. The cone struck an empty paper cup left on a bench; the cup rolled, hit three metal bowls stacked for a dog’s water dish, and the top bowl tipped. Its rim clipped a rusty skateboard wheel lying nearby. The wheel spun off the ledge, bumped the wooden bench leg, and vibrated the seat. A tin box that had been forgotten there slid sideways; its lid sprang open, and colorful game pieces spilled across the paving stones. One small plastic figure—a referee with a raised whistle, the whistleblower from some old board game—bounced twice, dropped into the fountain, and splashed beside the goose. Startled, the bird flapped hard, sending a sheet of water over Noel’s socks and propelling the miniature sailboat toward the opposite rim.
Wind strengthened as slate clouds gathered, and the flying tape wrapped around the skateboard wheel, halting further movement like a soft brake. Noel steadied the floating boat with a twig, then stood back, wet shoes pressing into the grass. At the same hour, beyond the playground edge, a forgotten ribbon on the gazebo roof loosened from its snag and twirled downward toward the empty swing set.
