Echoes Behind the Glass Loop-

English 原文
“Did that bell ring?” Ben paused beside the lockers, the single note still hanging above the steady hiss of air-conditioning. It had bounced along the corridor between wings, brushing every glass case and raising a faint tremor in the polished floor. He drifted toward the science exhibition hall, hoping to catch the tone again. Inside, a dormant water organ stood silent; its pipes stood like thin trees, each topped with a wooden knob carved as an acorn. Ben tapped one knob to kindle another vibration, yet only his finger thudded, swallowed by the broad hush that followed.
A louder hum rolled out from a side alcove, then slipped away as though it had fallen into an abyss. Ben stepped after it, but a tour group swept across his path, their guide’s shoes drumming a quick rhythm that masked the clue. When the group filed into a history room, the corridor cleared. He spotted an empty poster tube leaning against a bench and raised it like a crude ear-trumpet. Through the narrow cylinder, he caught a soft gurgle, then a hollow pop. The sound shifted again, so he pressed on, the tube amplifying each muffled burst as effectively as a siphon draws liquid.
At the interactive corner he found a looping glass device half-filled with dyed water. Heat from a hidden lamp pushed bubbles along the bend; each bubble burst, striking the glass with the same bell-like note that had started his search. The exhibit had been rigged to restart on a timer, so no attendant stood nearby. Ben angled the poster tube once more, confirming the pitch, then lowered it with a grin that creased his cheeks. He turned toward the gift shop entrance where fresh chatter now echoed. Behind him, bubbles kept climbing the glass arc, tapping out their irregular cadence while the door at the corridor’s far end swung shut on its own slow hinge.
