Warm morning light filled the busy market.

Tara pushed a wheelbarrow full of bright harvest pumpkins.

A short wooden gate blocked her path to the cart.

A carved bear stood on the gate like a guard.

Tara leaned forward and tried to lift the whole gate.

The heavy board refused to move even one inch.

She slid her fingers along the wood, searching for space.

A sudden sting told her a thorn hid under the paint.

She looked closer and spotted a thin line around the bear.

Tara pressed the line; the top half turned like a lid.

The gate folded in the middle and fell outward, freeing space.

Her wheelbarrow rolled ahead, nudged a fish table, and shook a bucket.

Pink squid slipped over the rim and splashed into shallow water trays.

Water splattered her boots, but the pumpkins stayed safe inside.

A thin stream of water trailed across the stones.
