English 原文
The stone border under Tatum’s glove felt oddly warm, though her breath puffed out in crisp, white clouds. She stepped onto the cloudy blue-grey puddle and set a silver bottle cap on the gritty ice. The quaint rink measured barely three paces across, its centre thicker than the translucent, crackled rim. A couple of adults chatted near benches, voices carrying across the sand-dusted pavement while Wren waited. Tatum gave the cap a gentle push, aiming to ride it across the centre toward the far bank. It skimmed three handspans, struck the frozen-leaf bump, then veered toward thin edge ice and stalled in a splash. Cold water seeped into her sock as she lurched back, the cap stranded beside a spreading white crack.
They crossed the sand-dusted pavement to a sunlit bench whose concrete retained surprising warmth. Wren unwrapped a small bun; an aromatic scent of cinnamon and clove drifted between their brief white sighs. While nibbling, Tatum observed an intricate pattern of trapped bubbles beneath the rink, each circle overlapping like fish scales. Farther along, a lamppost cast a slender silhouette across the ice, its outline wavering whenever a breeze brushed the meltwater film. Curious about traction, Wren sprinkled a pinch of sand onto the stone, then tested the gritty feel with his heel. Tatum found two smooth pebbles near a planter and lined them along the border as distance markers. If she had thrust earlier with more force, her boot would have drifted into wet patches now shimmering at the rim.
A thin stream slipped from the sunlit rim, sweeping the forgotten bottle cap back toward the centre in a lazy spiral. Tatum stepped after it, letting one boot glide across the slick film while the other balanced on firm, blue-grey thickness. Without thinking, she nudged the metal disk at a lower angle, steering around the leaf’s bump and across the marker pebbles. The cap glided cleanly, slowed near the far bank, and began drifting again as the meltwater current caught its edge. Wren braced his boot against the thinning rim, turning the cap back toward thicker ice before it touched flexing film. Beside the boot, a ribbon of meltwater continued sliding beneath the cap and traced a wavering silver path toward the sand.
