English 原文
A sheet of violet tissue clung to only the lower half of Sable’s bouquet, the loose top rustling every time the stems brushed the board at the wrapping station. Water dripped from the cut ends with a hollow pat-pat into the metal trough below, and the cooler at the back hummed a steady bass line beneath the lighter hiss of the ceiling fans. Jude, her companion, slid a spool of ribbon across the counter; the spool rattled against a pair of scissors that the florist had left there. He aimed to convey the right length with two quick finger taps on the fabric roll, yet Sable had already tugged the strand halfway free, the thin weave scraping softly over the cardboard core. At that juncture both noticed the same silver stripe woven through the ribbon, the only piece that matched the tiny needlework flowers embroidered on a nearby gift pouch.
The shared aim became obvious when their hands met on the spool and the ribbon squeaked under sudden tension. A faint bell jingled at the entrance, masking Sable’s short laugh and the low clack of Jude’s bracelets against the counter as he drew back. Their distinct plans overlapped: she wanted a bow to finish her half-wrapped bouquet, while he needed a strip to tie a greeting card to his pot of daisies. The spool, already narrow, could not unwind two ways at once. Sable lifted a slender wooden dowel from a tub of stick supports and pressed its end through the spool’s hollow heart; the dowel thudded against the wood surface. Jude steadied the opposite end, and together they eased the roll off, dividing it by winding one side onto the dowel. The ribbon wound in alternating shuff-shuff layers, each turn releasing a faint sigh of tension.
A sudden hiss burst overhead; the hidden mist nozzle released its timed spray, and droplets pattered on the fresh ribbon before either could shield it. Damp fibers tightened, making the fabric resist each pull with a muted groan. Jude wound the moist section farther up the dowel, isolating the wet part, while Sable corkscrewed the dry remainder around her bouquet, the tissue crackling under her thumbs. When silence returned, two bows lay finished and the dowel stood between them like a quiet bridge. Tiny water specks now dotted the violet loops, leaving dark freckles across the bright fabric.
