English 原文
The bronze binoculars caught the hard noon glare, but their narrow footplate rattled whenever shoes thumped across the steel deck. Below that shiver of metal, a slow croak rose from the swamp exhibit, then faded behind the brighter ring of children laughing farther along the path. Zelda paused beside the kiosk’s wooden table, where leaflets rustled under a ceiling fan, and tapped the binocular column; the vibration replied with a soft clang. A patch of flattened clover near the railing still held dew, and each drop hissed as it slid from leaf to stone. Somewhere behind her, a pump drummed out a steady pulse that mixed with the airy whistle of wind against mesh fencing.
Zelda tilted onto her toes, caught only the top of a bamboo roof, and lowered again with a small sigh that escaped as a brief puff. She folded one map leaflet, slipped it beneath the plate, and the metal groaned but stayed too low. The next addition, a rolled timetable, wedged in place with a dry squeak; the image through the eyepiece shifted yet left the panda shelter in shadow. A tiny acorn knocked against the railing when a stroller wheel brushed it; she scooped the nut and pressed it between the other papers. The stack rose high enough, yet each new breath of wind made the viewer tremble like a loose cymbal, and the lens produced only blurred stripes of enclosure wall. If Zelda had left the stack alone, the viewer would have stayed shaky forever.
She crouched, slid the acorn free, and its hard shell ticked twice on the table before rolling away. Without the extra wedge, the remaining papers settled, and the footplate stopped buzzing. Through the steadied glass, a banded tail flickered as the panda shifted, then the hush of the crowd deepened to watch. Lamps inside the nearby café spilled amber light that suggested hygge around empty stools, yet Zelda’s ears stayed on the faint rhythmic chew coming from the animal house. She removed the folded leaflet from under the plate and set it flat on the wooden table.
