English 原文
A steel-grey binocular mount, a pale coin slot, and three blue-grey arrows stood beside the glass railing. Wyatt had come with Flora, hoping to glimpse the snow leopard resting among frost-white rocks. The timetable board had been updated silently; the next feeding remained twenty minutes away. Coins mattered, yet his pockets held only a folded note. The change machine waited back at the map kiosk, but he chose to dawdle here, trusting another child might leave unused seconds on the lens. A loose grate vibrated under rolling prams, adding its tinny symphony to distant peacock cries, yet no brief window opened. Fresh visitors began to gather, each sliding smaller coins into hidden fists, and the eyepiece stayed dark.
Flora touched his sleeve and pointed toward the curved lower glass panel where a fluorescent bar left the centre glaring. That corner still showed clear stone, but a tall school group blocked Wyatt’s line. Strategy shifted: Flora, shorter, threaded between backpacks and lifted her silver bottle so its reflective side flashed cool light. The sudden sparkle loosened the crowd; if he stepped quickly he would reach the panel. A scarlet cardinal landed on the railing, startling pupils and opening a wider gap. Wyatt slid through, pressed Flora’s coin into the slot, and lowered his brow to the chilled rim. Calls, steps, and the bottle’s faint clink mixed without harmony; inside the circle, the snow leopard raised its head at the wings’ rustle.
A raspy PA speaker crackled above the path, announcing that the reptile house would stay closed for an extra hour. The message rippled through the crowd; visitors turned, and many drifted toward the snow leopard deck instead. Their shoes scuffed the gravel louder, rocking the binocular mount. Wyatt’s viewing time ticked away, yet the leopard now climbed higher on the pale ledge, pawing at loose ice. He adjusted the focus again, elbows braced against the steel-grey railing, and kept pressing his forehead to the cool glass ring.
