The Drop That Rewrote the River-

English 原文
Rain drummed an uneven rhythm on the upper pane, each hollow tap echoing through the quiet room before Axel’s fingertip traced its first clear line in the fog. His sister Inez hummed beside him, colouring a paper kite on the sill shelf, while warm wool in their jumpers mixed with a faint metallic tang from the radiator. Axel aimed to sketch a winding river across the lower pane, where the condensation lay thick like milk. He had already pressed three curved bends into the mist, and tiny drops began to bead along those edges. Encouraged, he added a fringe of trees; the droplets near the fringe seemed to dance sideways whenever a new gust rattled the glass.
More detail felt necessary, so Axel drew distant hills, then tilted his finger to widen the riverbanks. Each new stroke deepened the cleared paths, yet the glass above held its own plan. A fat bead gathered on the upper pane, fed by hidden channels, and slid downward. The perseverance of that single drop cut through cloud, hill, and river alike, smearing a shining vertical streak. Smaller drops joined, and the whole stream threatened to carry on until it pooled at the sill. Steam from the forgotten cup of tea rose and re-fogged the river mouth, hiding his careful trees. Axel leaned closer, breath expanding a round, wet blur; he hurried to redraw, but the picture now looked muddled and heavy.
He paused, then wiped away the middle hill with one swift pull of the cloth—removing the section that had first diverted the water. The cleared gap formed a neat gutter, and the wandering trickle slipped into it, leaving the remaining shapes untouched. Axel folded the cloth and wedged it against the frame edge, blocking fresh steam from the cup. The largest drop slid along the new gutter with quiet dignity, steering clear of his riverbanks. The pane that had been fully clouded now held a bright channel, and outside, rainwater kept racing down that narrow track toward the sill.
