Kira pressed her fingertip into the cool misted surface, the radiator’s low hum sliding beneath the rain’s uneven rhythm. Outside, a garden shed leaned beside a tilted wheelbarrow; both shapes blurred behind the glass as car tyres hissed past the curb. She traced a small bird across the thinning mist near the top and curved ripples for a pond below, planning to link the two scenes later. A gust rattled the drainpipe; a sudden drip raced downward, slicing through the bird’s back like a sharp break in music. If she pressed too hard, the glass answered with a squeal, yet she still rose on her toes, angled her wrist, and retraced the curve in one swift glide while Joy’s blocks clacked behind her.

The rescue came at a cost: her elbow brushed the lower pane, and the pond dissolved under a spreading grey blur while fresh drips began to overwhelm the fragile circles. Steam from a cup on the sill sighed upward, re-clouding part of the scene. Rather than wipe everything clean, she chose to improvise. Bending closer, she reshaped the smear into tall reeds, letting each fingertip stroke follow the soft rattle of gutters outside. That adjustment left the upper bird fading; the thinner mist there dried quickly, washing colour from its body. She darkened only the wing tips, leaving the rest pale so both drawings stayed visible, though neither looked complete. The upper pane that had been loud with fast drops now carried only an uneven patter, and a thin rivulet slipped over the bird’s wing and kept gliding toward the sill.
