The Line Under the Footprints-

English 原文
The plasticky tang of outdoor acrylic hung over the tarp, sharp as soon-baked brick. White chalk footprints—the trace of someone who had stepped in crushed sticks before him—dotted the ground between Forrest’s shoes and the wall.
He crouched in the shade line zone where sun and shadow touched the bricks like a tiny cliff. A green base coat darkened his numbered square, yet the chalk boundary between his section and Yara’s red swath had vanished under the first strokes. The missing edge mattered; without it the colours would drift across the thoroughfare of mortar grooves. Forrest dipped a stir stick and felt a dry twist on the surface of the green bucket. Flakes floated like leaves; brushing them away only pushed them deeper. He adjusted by sliding a scrap of mesh over an empty tray and pouring slowly until three palm-sized patches of clean paint spread inside. Still, each pour covered only part of the lost line, and the upper bricks dried faster than he worked.
A faint breeze nudged red droplets toward his territory. Forrest leaned back, noticing the dusty footprints again. They had stopped exactly where the chalk line once ran. The prints were not random; they marked the hidden edge with the same quiet justice a ruler gives to paper. Choosing speed over another trip to the easel, he lined his roller against the outermost toe mark, then added a second and third strip, each as wide as two fingers. The third strip met the first with a soft slide of bristles; the colours now stood apart, the border reborn. Yara glanced over, eyes widening, yet said nothing—both sections simply fit.
Forrest pressed the roller over the last chalk footprint, sealing it beneath a crisp band of green.
