A sharp salt smell drifts. Odette stands on warm sand. Light moves across wet pebbles. She spots a rock gap. She bends and looks through. Foam slides back, shell glints. A rabbit jumps behind seaweed. Its paws leave quick prints. Shadow hides the small prints. Odette straightens and walks on. It is nearly noon now. She reaches a hollow driftwood. She leans and looks inside.

Darkness blocks the inner curve. Sand shifts against her shoes. She steps sideways for light. The hollow brightens a little. A kingfisher flies above foam. Blue wings flash, then sail. A tiny crab clicks. Vivian crouches near the pool. "Nice shells," she says softly. Odette smiles and steps away. She ducks under a tilted boat. Light ripples on inner boards. A soft splash rings nearby.
