English 原文
A soft drip tapped the glass dish on the table.
It was Tuesday, and Zelma leaned over the nature corner. A small bottle of thick blue ink stood beside clear water. Eli, a retired teacher, turned pages behind her. Zelma wanted the ink to touch the water so she could watch color curl around a shell. She lifted a glass dropper. Sticky liquid clung to its tip; surface tension held it like a tiny bead. The child decided to press the rubber bulb, expecting one neat drop. Instead, two drops slid down the outside of the tube, seeped across her fingers, and splashed onto the open notebook. Dark lines spread through the paper fibers.
She froze only a breath, then took decisive action. Her left hand reached for a square of blotting paper. Pressure from her palm forced the absorbent sheet against the growing stain. Ink soaked upward, leaving lighter veins where it traveled slower through thicker pulp. A single drop, still in the pipette, finally let go and plopped into the dish. Colored ribbons swirled in slow current around the shell, then settled as a faint cloud. Zelma’s shoulders lifted in a confident stretch, yet more ink leaked from the bottle rim, crept over the wooden surface, and edged toward the feather tray.
Eli spoke quietly, “More towels sit on the shelf.” Zelma set the blotting paper down without wiping the rest. She turned, reached past the tray, and picked up a smooth striped pebble instead. Cold weight filled her palm while a sunbeam crawled across the stone.
